David Holmes, President
David is a senior at Wheaton College where is he studying Biochemistry. While at school he tutors organic chemistry and has been a member of the concert choir and running club. His travels have taken him all over the world, most recently to Tenwek Hospital in Kenya. When he’s not traveling, you might find him hiking, golfing, snowboarding, or playing Captain von Trapp in a local production of the Sound of Music. He hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
Ashley Wright, Vice President
Ashley is an Economics major at Hillsdale College, where she also leads a Bible study and volunteers at a local elementary school. She recently studied abroad at Magdalen College in Oxford and the London School of Economics. Her interests include development economics, foreign languages, foreign and public policy, and traveling. The board has benefited from her baking skills at many meetings, as well as her knack for finding the perfect tea blend.
Hillary Topazian, Secretary-Treasurer
Hillary recently graduated from Wheaton College with a Biology degree. She enjoys running, cooking, and going to aquariums. While at Wheaton she was a teacher’s assistant, vice president of an economic development club, and cross country captain. Her studies in international development, as well as travels in Africa with her family, have spurred her interest in the work of the SAHARA Project.
Rachel Topazian, Advocacy Officer
Rachel recently graduated from Wheaton College, where she majored in Philosophy. She is interested in bioethics, qualitative research, writing, and the translation of research to the public. She has served on the cabinet of a social justice group, studied abroad at Oxford University, and completed a fellowship in the Mayo Clinic’s Department of Biomedical Ethics.
Elise Topazian, Public Relations Officer
Elise is a sophomore at Wheaton College, where she is running cross country and track and field. She enjoys playing the piano and cello, Nordic skiing, and reading. Her senior year in high school, she ran in the state cross country meet, wrote a monthly column for the Post-Bulletin, and graduated with honors. She enjoys studying history and art.
Matthew Merry, Project Manager
Matt attended Northwestern University, IL and transferred to the University of Minnesota: Twin Cities last fall where he is studying Economics and Pre-Med. He previously served as the Economic Development Consultant to the SAHARA Project Board. He loves playing beach volleyball and learning about third world economics.
